When we wrote articles (and got a big response) about how hard it is to find your tribe in San Francisco… or moving to San Francisco and having a hard time connecting with like minded people because it’s such a transient city… we knew we had to start a Violet Fog BOOK CLUB!

Did you all ever follow Oprah’s Book Club? I was an addict. When I’d walk into bookstores, I’d look for the ‘O’ sticker on all the books because I loved every single one she would pick. They were all devastatingly beautiful and took you on a roller coaster of emotion. Even better, everyone in her audience got to experience it together as they would have the author on the show and they had a massive on screen book club and I would sit at my screen clenching onto the ‘O’ book crying, laughing, having all the feels.

When I moved to SF, myself and a couple of girls started a book club and we would vote on a book every month, get together, drink, eat food and never talk about the book. Perfect, right? It gave me a sense of belonging — I got to be part of a group of wonderful women who just wanted to hang once a month and while we never talked about the book, who cares because we got drunk and got to shoot the shit; almost, half way just like Oprah and her crew.

With all of that being said … we always think about how we could bring our VF readers together. The readers we love so dearly who live experiences with us, join conversations and are a part of our community — we love you all so how can we join forces and meet you and hang out?

None other than a book club!

As of January, 2017, we are launching the VF Book Club! Once a month, we will invite you all to join us to read a book and maybe never discuss it at all and mostly to meet other members of our beautiful (smart and sassy) community.

We have heard from so many readers that they crave sisterhood, good belonging, good conversation, girl power… and a sense of belonging in this city. And we are so excited to be able to do this!! Let’s get together and HANG! Of course we’d have to get a heads up count so we can plan before- so let us know if you guys are interested by liking this! Or commenting. Shooting an email- whatevs! You know how to reach us. (Personally I’m Sandra@VioletFog.com)

Where: As you all know, the most prevalent way of hosting a book club is in someone’s cozy living room. We are going to switch it up and host at bars and lounges. Maybe cafes.

Theme: There won’t be a theme! In fact, we welcome suggestions from our readers on any book (fiction and non-fiction) for books you would like for other VF members to read and attempt to discuss at our monthly gatherings! And if picking the list were on me, it would be 12 hardcore feminist books, so let’s get a fun variety going instead!

When: one every month, dates TBD!

So… friends, readers, family, VF community: we hope you will join us in coming together and drinking and having good food and making new friends and WE CAN’T WAIT TO MEET YOU!
