I always find a way to get my collagen in during the day. ALWAYS. I’m dead serious… I don’t skip a beat. I love it for my skin, gut health, joint health… hair… just to name a few reasons.

Before we dive deep into this, because you know I am ALL ABOUT TRANSPARENCY: I *am* working with the brand I’m about to tell you about (Dr. Axe.) Do I feel it’s superior to others/most? DUH. Okay let’s get back into collagen. Because if you’re considering adding it to your routine, I want to share with you my research and why I personally love it. You know, just so you get an opinion- this is definitely not professional nor medical advice. It’s all different for everyone.

So what IS collagen? It’s the most abundant protein in our body. To quote Dr. Axe (great article here) “Collagen is found in muscles, bones, skin, blood vessels, digestive system and tendons. It’s what helps give our skin strength and elasticity, along with replacing dead skin cells. When it comes to our joints and tendons, in simplest terms, it’s the “glue” that helps hold the body together.”

Why I prefer Dr. Axe’s MULTI Collagen over other collagens on the market: It has five types of collagen as opposed to just one or two. (Most brands have type 1 & 3 collagen in it- type 1 being the most present in our bodies.)

Dr. Axe has type 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 in it. (Most brands leave out 2, 4, and 5!)

A quick overview of the 5 types of collagen aka the cliff notes and why I personally think they’re important:

Type 1 is 90% of all collagen. It’s our scar tissue, it’s in our ligaments and muscles, teeth… skin…

Type 2 deals mostly with joint cartilage. Growing up I played soccer and danced and had a LOT of impact on my knees. I baby my knees these days!

Type 3 in mostly in the lymph system and is in the mesh around our livers.

Type 4 deals with the lungs and the tissue around your intestines.

Type 5 is more surface level. Think HAIR.

So my faaaaavorite, favorite way to have my collagen is either in my coffee or my “beauty immunity drink” I make at least twice a week. It looks like adult chocolate milk- which you can see above. I have the recipe here.

When I am consistent with my collagen (and I am): my nails grow SO quick. My digestion is better. My skin looks plumper- more glow-y.

There are older women who have started taking collagen and report back that they actually see slight fine lines actually filling in. It’s CRAZY. And as we age- we lose about 1% of collagen a year. Prevention, Violets!! Prevention and health.

Gut issues. Skin maintenance. Joints. Protein building. The benefits are PLENTY. And it’s easy to just dissolve into your drink.
